Damit will die Künstlerin entsprechende Abstimmungen dieser Tage im US-Senat unterstützen. Die Botschaft des Videos lautet: „Take a stand. Call the US Capitol Switchboard (1-202-224-3121) to connect you to your two US Senators and your Congressional Representative. Tell them: I am your constituent and I want you to support closing Guantanamo. Indefinite detention and unfair trials are illegal, un-American and unnecessary.“

In dem Video „We Are America“ sind auch Stevie Wonder und Harry Belfonte in eindeutigen Protestposen zu sehen. Spalding möchte auf diese Weise dem amerikanischen Kongress zeigen, dass es durchaus öffentliche Unterstützung für die Schließung von Guantanamo gibt: „The first time I heard about the mass hunger strike at Guantanamo, I was appalled and embarrassed about what my country was doing. As I learned that there were far better options on the table, and that what is going on at Guantanamo is a clear violation of U.S. human rights obligations, I felt I had to do something.“ Das politische R&B-Video mit Spalding wird von „American Civil Liberties Union“, Amnesty International, „Human Rights First“ und „Human Rights Watch“ unterstützt.
